Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about rooftop solar in India.

What is rooftop solar?+

A photovoltaic system installed on the roof of your home, office or factory that converts sunlight directly into electricity.

How does it save me money?+

Every unit generated by your solar system replaces a unit you would have bought from the grid at ₹6–12/kWh.

How much subsidy is available under PM Surya Ghar Yojana?+

Central subsidy of up to ₹78,000 for residential systems up to 3 kW. State subsidies may apply on top.

How much rooftop area is required?+

Roughly 100 sq. ft. of shadow-free area for every 1 kW of solar capacity.

How long does installation take?+

Residential: 7–15 days. Commercial: 3–6 weeks. Industrial: 6–12 weeks.

What is net metering?+

A billing mechanism that lets you export surplus solar to the grid and offset consumption. You only pay for the net units used.

Warranty on solar panels?+

25 years linear performance warranty from all tier-1 manufacturers.

Warranty on inverter?+

5–10 years standard, extendable up to 25 years with paid extended warranty.

Do you offer AMC & maintenance?+

Yes. All partners offer annual maintenance contracts including cleaning, inspection and monitoring.

Is subsidy available for commercial installations?+

PM Surya Ghar is residential only. Commercial buyers can claim 40% accelerated depreciation under the Income Tax Act.

How is my vendor verified?+

We check MNRE registration, DISCOM empanelment, GST validity, past installations and customer references.

What happens on cloudy or rainy days?+

Solar generates less on overcast days. Grid-tied systems automatically draw the shortfall from the grid.

Can I get a loan for solar?+

Yes — SBI, HDFC, Canara Bank and NBFCs offer solar loans at 8–10% interest for tenures up to 10 years.

What is the ROI on rooftop solar?+

Typical payback: 4–5 years residential, 3–4 years commercial, 2–3 years industrial.

Do solar panels work in monsoon?+

Yes — panels are rated IP68 and withstand heavy rain, wind and hail. Rain also cleans them.

Are panels safe on my roof?+

Yes. Installations are engineered for wind loads up to 200 kmph and add negligible weight per sq. ft.

Will it damage my roof?+

No. Our mounting structures preserve the roof and can be uninstalled without damage.

What paperwork is involved?+

DISCOM application, net-metering agreement, subsidy filing on National Portal — we handle it all.

Can I take my system with me if I move?+

Rooftop systems can be uninstalled and re-installed, but it's rarely economical. Systems typically stay with the property.

Do panels work in coastal areas?+

Yes. We use anti-corrosion coated modules and structures rated for coastal environments.

What is a hybrid solar system?+

A solar system with battery storage that keeps power flowing even during outages.

Is battery storage needed?+

Not for grid-tied systems. Add batteries only if you need backup power or live in an area with frequent outages.

How is monitoring done?+

Every system comes with an app showing real-time generation, savings and diagnostics.

What if I export more than I use?+

Net-metering credits carry forward. At year-end most DISCOMs pay you back at Feed-in-Tariff rates.
